1623The First Folio publishedSeven years after Shakespeare's death, his fellow actors John Heminges and Henry Condell publish Mr. William Shakespeares Comedies, Histories, & Tragedies — the First Folio. It contains 36 plays, 18 of which had never been printed before and would otherwise have been lost, including Macbeth, Antony and Cleopatra, The Tempest, Twelfth Night and As You Like It. Around 750 copies are printed; approximately 235 survive. Ben Jonson contributes a poem: "He was not of an age, but for all time."
