• 1613 Purchase of the Blackfriars Gatehouse Shakespeare purchases the Blackfriars Gatehouse in London for £140 — the largest property investment of his life — jointly with three associates who appear to be holding it in trust for him, perhaps to keep it from Anne's dower rights. The purpose is unclear: he never seems to have lived there. It may have been an investment property, or intended for his son-in-law John Hall. He sells it before his death.
