1576Tycho Brahe granted Hven for Uraniborg observatoryDanish king endows astronomer with an islandKing Frederick II of Denmark granted the astronomer Tycho Brahe the island of Hven along with funds to build an observatory. Brahe laid the cornerstone of Uraniborg there later that year, creating what became Europe's most advanced astronomical research center. His decades of precise observations later underpinned Johannes Kepler's laws of planetary motion.
