1402 – 1460Humphrey Stafford, 1st Duke of Buckingham (1402-1460)Died 10 July 1460, aged 57Stafford, a leading Lancastrian magnate and close ally of Henry VI, was killed defending the royal camp at the Battle of Northampton. His death removed one of the crown's most capable military commanders during the Wars of the Roses.
1460Battle of NorthamptonYorkists capture King Henry VIYorkist forces defeated the Lancastrian royal army outside Northampton, aided by treachery among the king's artillery commanders. Henry VI was captured in the aftermath and brought to London, while several leading Lancastrian lords were killed defending the camp.
