1309Knights Hospitaller complete the conquest of RhodesCity of Rhodes surrenders to the HospitallersAfter a siege lasting several years, the city of Rhodes surrendered to the Knights Hospitaller on 15 August 1309. The conquest gave the order a sovereign base in the Aegean, from which it would rule as the Hospitaller state of Rhodes for over two centuries. The island became the order's headquarters after the fall of the Crusader states in the Levant.
