• 1100 Henry I crowned King of England Issues the Charter of Liberties at his coronation Henry I was crowned at Westminster Abbey just days after his brother William II died in a hunting accident, moving quickly to secure the throne ahead of their elder brother Robert. On the same day he issued the Charter of Liberties, a document limiting royal power over the church and nobility that later influenced Magna Carta. The charter promised to end many of the harsh practices of his predecessor's reign.
