Events in 1070 BC – 1060 BC 2
1550 BC – 1070 BCThe New Kingdom -- empire and gloryThe New Kingdom (1550-1070 BC) is the imperial age of ancient Egypt -- the period of Hatshepsut, Thutmose III, Akhenaten, Nefertiti, Tutankhamun, Ramesses II and the Sea Peoples. Egypt controls an empire from Nubia to the Euphrates; its temples at Karnak and Abu Simbel are among the greatest buildings ever erected; its royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings are painted with extraordinary scenes of the afterlife. The New Kingdom is Egypt at its most powerful, most creative and most internationally engaged.
1070 BC – 332 BCThe Late Period -- fragmentation and foreign ruleThe Late Period (1070-332 BC) sees Egypt divided, conquered by Nubians and Assyrians, briefly independent under the Saite Renaissance, then conquered twice by Persia. The Nubian 25th Dynasty (747-656 BC) rules as authentic pharaohs; the Saite 26th Dynasty (664-525 BC) produces a brilliant cultural revival before Cambyses conquers Egypt for Persia in 525 BC.
